New Season Begins

Rockmount continues to lead the field in the pretraining and rehabilitation of some of Australia’s great thoroughbreds. A new season always brings with it new hopes and dreams and here at the farm we do are best to try and provide the much sought after happy ending.

Caulfield on August 4th saw the first Saturday meeting of the new season at Caulfield and the Mick Price trained Bel Mer came within a short margin of getting the prize in the Yalumba Masters. Owned by Vinery Stud and the Vic Club syndicate, the Rockmount pretrained filly was just beaten by the very good filly in Royal Asscher but showed that she has come back in good order and should have a fruitful Spring campaign.

Five days later at Bendigo, the Nigel Blackiston trained Oronero shook off his maiden tag in good style. Owned by regular Rockmount patron Ralph Zito, this 3 year old Colombia gelding was having just his second start since completing his pretraining at Rockmount and his future looks bright after this authoritative win.

Another filly who will go on in leaps and bounds this Spring is Patasi. The beautifully bred daughter of Danehill Dancer, who incidentally has now sired 55 individual stakes winners worldwide, kick started her campaign at the Sandown Lakeside track on August 15th. Running over the 1200 metre trip, the Rockmount pretrainer stormed home to run 2nd after getting too far back in the field and will surely be a stakes winning filly this campaign.
