Treble To End Season Rockmount ended the month of July, and so the end of the 2006/2007 racing season, with three winners in a month which was affected heavily by wet tracks. July 15th saw the Mick Price trained filly Feisty Rose break her maiden status at Mornington on a heavy track. By Fusaichi Pegasus, the three year old filly won convincingly under Craig Newitt and her pedigree suggests that the Devon Park Stud owned filly will appreciate a step up in distance come the spring. Feisty Rose is out of the excellent Danehill race mare Rose O’ War who herself spent her pretraining days at our Longwood property under the Roselands banner. Bred by Vinery Stud, Feisty Rose has a superior pedigree for the future and hopefully she can add to that during her upcoming four year old campaign.
A mare who should relish the soft conditions in early spring is Blue Grouse who continued her excellent form by taking out the Evens Stevens Handicap at Werribee on July 20th. The Rockmount pretrainer was well ridden by Corey Brown and, although seemingly under pressure 600 metres out, rounded the field with relative ease and won comfortably on the line. The Darley owned Maria’s Mon mare has returned to Rockmount for a two week freshen up in the water walker and will head back to Brian Mayfield-Smith’s stable this week to hopefully increase her bank balance!
The Mick Price/Rockmount combination struck again in July when Berezovsky was triumphant in a class 6 event at Tatura. This gelding by Red Ransom is as genuine as they come and this was his fourth win from just ten starts. He would appear to have the scope to go on to better races than this 2000 metre event and is steadily rising in the ratings. Owned by loyal clients Pip Cooper and Greg Perry, Berezovsky will no doubt continue to more than pay his way. |
