Rockmount's Overseas Success

With the Hong Kong racing season drawing to a close, Rockmount can look back with pride on its recent victories in the former British colony.

Asian Bloodstock Services, managed by Marie Yoshida, entrusts Rockmount with all their Australian yearling purchases and over the years Marie has bought some excellent types. All her yearlings are broken in by Brett Cavanough’s team at Albury, spelled and educated at Rockmount and given a couple of preparations at Peter Moody’s stables at Caulfield. Winners this season include the very smart Supreme Gains with 5 wins, 3 placings and a very unlucky 5th in the Hong Kong Derby. By Anabaa, out of the Zabeel mare Zebizan, he was purchased by Marie from Willow Park Stud at the Sydney Easter yearling sales in 2004.

Mascot Fortune is another shrewd Marie Yoshida buy. >From the Coolmore Stud draft at last year’s Sydney Easter yearling sales, he is by Fusaichi Pegasus out of Vegahoney. Only a 2 year old, Mascot Fortune has had two starts for a 1st and 3rd and is no doubt one to look forward too next season. Another couple to look forward too next season will be a Rock Of Gibraltar colt out of Crowning Jewel and a Fusaichi Pegasus gelding out of She’s A Pretender. Both horses, purchased by Asian bloodstock, have just entered pre-export quarantine with I.R.T. and will arrive in Hong Kong in about three weeks time. The very best of luck to Marie and her owners for next season.

On June 7th an old favourite of Rockmount’s saluted in a 1,000 metre event at Happy Valley. Good To Go, who raced for Vinery Stud and Peter Moody inAustralia as Jacks Or More, has taken his time to find his feet in the colony but would appear to have benefited by having a break between runs. Here’s hoping that next season is a profitable one for him.
