The One to Watch

The most impressive winner at Sha Tin on Sunday December 19th was royally bred Redoubte's Choice three year- old California Choice , who maintained his unbeaten record with a sizzling win.

Prepared by Tony Cruz for his owner/breeder Dr Howard Liang, California Choice settled off the pace before chiming in at the furlong and from there it was all over.

Having just his second race start, California Choice produced an explosive change of gear to drop his rivals in a stride, coasting home to win the 1000 metre dash by more than three lengths in 56.7 seconds, his well documented wind problems proving no hindrance.

Despite his two starts to date both being at 1000 metres, his trainer Tony Cruz believes California Choice may be better suited as a miler in the future.

California Choice had spent the previous 18 months here at Rockmount being prepared for Hong Kong. Dr Liang's horses are managed by renowned agent Marie Yoshida who has a long association with Damian Murphy, the Rockmount Manager.
