Smart Winner For Benicio

Victoria Derby winner Benicio was represented by a new winner at Sale on Tuesday 13 July, when the Mick Price trained Cuban Sunday defeated older rivals to win easily on debut.

Sporting the green and white colours of Vinery Stud, Cuban Sunday drew clear to score comfortably by nearly two lengths in the 1213 metre maiden.

Cuban Sunday is the fourth winner for Benicio and made a keen impression for his sire at the 2009 Inglis First Season Sire Showcase Sale where he fetched $75,000.

He is the third winner for the Sunday Silence mare Magical Sunday (Jpn), a full sister to Group One winner and sire Tayasu Tsuyoshi (Jpn) who shuttled to Australia for several seasons leaving star filly Hollow Bullet among others.

Cuban Sunday is following on a family tradition as his sire and granddam were also pre-trained and spelled on Rockmount's property.
