Here De Angels Romps Home
Classy sprinter Here De Angels added another feature to his resume when he cruised to victory in the $100,000 listed Christmas Stakes (1200) at Caulfield on Boxing Day. Prepared by Melbourne Cup winning horseman Mark Kavanagh, the Rockmount pretrainer overcame an awkward barrier, a big weight and a wide run to win in great style. The classy gelding by Dehere, now six, is in great form and he will most likely run in another Melbourne feature sprint in a fortnight. "It was a good win," Kavanagh's foreman Merv Harvey said. "He's got a bit on them. "Even though he had the weight to carry, he carries the weight well and the horse hasn't been going any better." Here De Angels was racing for the first time since running second, when beaten a nose, at Flemington over the carnival. He had won his previous race, a $100,000 contest, at Caulfield by almost three lengths. "We decided to freshen him up at Rockmount after the spring carnival. He's a bit of a hard horse to place." "So we came to this race and there's another one in a fortnight and we'll play it by ear from here." |
