Exciting Debut By We're Gonna Rock
Saturday's Fiesta Star Handicap at Flemington on 19 December was expected to produce a promising galloper but it may provide a couple after the impressive debut win of We're Gonna Rock. All eyes were on the short priced favourite and promising sprinter Marconi, prepared by Mick Price, who looked to be going comfortably before We're Gonna Rock produced an unbelievable final sectional. Spotting the favourite many lenghts after bombing the start, the Rockmount pretrainer ran home over the top of the field and away with more than a length to spare on Marconi, with Sydney visitor Winter King third. Prepared by Mark Kavanagh and ridden by Michael Rodd, We're Gonna Rock was having his first start but signaled he was a horse of the future. Kavanagh said the Fastnet Rock colt may be better over more ground later on but had always shown good ability. |
