Whobegotyou Rules At The Valley
Top class four year-old gelding Whobegotyou maintained his unbeaten record at Moonee Valley, charging home to score a dominant victory in the Group Two MVRC Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes over 1600 metres. Second at his first two runs back this spring, the Rockmount pretrainer sported blinkers for the first time on Saturday and they had the desired result, the son of Street Cry settling closer to the pace than in previous runs. Ridden a treat by Damien Oliver, Whobegotyou unleashed his trade mark finishing burst in the straight to turn the tables on Mic Mac, the horse that beat him last start in the Group Two MRC Memsie Stakes. Whobegotyou defeated the gallant Mic Mac by a length with Singapore trained entry Jolie’s Shinju back in third place. “The blinkers went on to tune him up,” trainer Mark Kavanagh said. “We always had them up our sleeve for the run into the Cox Plate but we decided to use them this time. “He hadn’t won for a while before today so we decided to put them on him and got the result.” Kavanagh said Whobegotyou would have one more run before the Cox Plate, but was unsure which race he would choose for the gelding, whose overall record now stands at six wins and seven placings from 16 starts with prizemoney of $1.7 million.. Whobegotyou was offered for sale by Widden Stud at the 2007 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and passed in shy of his $25,000 reserve before being later sold privately from the paddock to earth moving contractor Lawrence Eales, who has enjoyed a fairytale ride with the talented chestnut.
