Deserved Stakes Victory For Cats Whisker This time last year talented mare Cats Whisker was mixing it with the elite finishing second to Gallica in the Group One MRC Thousand Guineas, so it was good to see her back at the top of her game scoring a tenacious win in the Group Three MRC Cockram Stakes over 1200 metres at Caulfield on Saturday. The Mark Kavanagh trained Cats Whisker flew the gates, spearing across from the outside to lead and then pulling out plenty in the run to the line when challenged by Annesong, who failed to catch her by a nose. “She drew 14 which concerned me as I had left her a bit soft, but for a Group One placed mare the set weights and penalties made it a good race for her,” said Kavanagh. “I think she can go on and win a good race this spring.” A daughter of Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus, Cats Whisker has the tidy record of four wins and three placings from 10 starts with prizemoney in excess of $320,300. |
