Zavite Adds Adelaide Cup

It’s been quite a road trip for the Anthony Cummings-trained stayer Zavite who plundered another trophy with a two and a quarter length romp in Monday’s $400,000 Group 2 Skycity Adelaide Cup (3200m) at Morphettville.

Given a perfect trip by Nash Rawiller, Zavite drew clear to defeat Kerdem with favourite Banana Man a further 2-lengths back in third.

Zavite began his current campaign back in Melbourne last August, starting 8 times in the space of 12 weeks, with his best finish coming when third in the Listed Bart Cummings Stakes. After spending time in Rockmount’s water walker he was sent back to Sydney where the son of Zabeel captured the Listed Australia Day Cup before hitting the road again with a trip to Tasmania with the $240,000 Group 3 Hobart Cup (2200m) and $300,000 Group 3 Launceston Cup (2400m) his main goals.

He was a luckless second in the former before running out a clear winner at Launceston. The 6yo gelding has the million dollar mark in his sights, his record now stands at 8 wins, 5 seconds and 2 thirds from 36 starts for earnings of $978,350.

The Zavite road-show will now move back to Sydney, where he will take on the silk department in the $2.25 million Group 1 BMW Stakes (2400m) is at Rosehill on April 4 and the $700,000 Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick on April 24.
