Zavite Claims Launceston Cup

Despite a torrid float trip in which he took skin off both hips, honest campaigner Zavite led at very call to capture Wednesday’s $300,000 Group 3 AAMI Launceston Cup (2400m).

Given a positive ride by Nash Rawiller, the Rockmount pretrainer defeated Centurytwentyone by three-quarters of a length with Ista Kareem a neck back in third.

It was the fourth stakes success for Zavite who takes his overall record to 7 wins, 5 seconds and 2 thirds from 35 starts for earnings of $717,850.

The 6yo gelding has raced twice a month, with the exception of December, since August last year. There will be no letting up in the near future according to trainer Anthony Cummings. Zavite will have his next start in the Adelaide Cup.

“He just thrives on racing, he loves it so we’ll keep plugging away with him,” Cummings said.

“We’ll bring him back to Sydney after the Adelaide Cup for the Chairman’s Handicap and then we’ll have a crack at the Sydney Cup.”
