Zavite Recaptures Winning Form Zavite’s stay at Rockmount to use our water walker has proved very successful with the six-year-old winning the $100,000 Listed Australia Day Cup at Randwick. Starting at $5, Zavite sat on the third line of betting with Macknuckle, the impressive last start Rosehill winner sent out favourite over the Gerald Ryan-trained topweight Tommifrancs. Macknuckle fatally relinquished the front to the six-year-old early on where he was able to dictate the tempo to suit, outstaying his challengers to win by an impressive two and three quarters of a length. Come On Cugat and Macknuckle filled the minor placings, with Tommifrancs running on from dead last for fourth. Rawiller was thrilled by the veteran stayer’s return to the winner’s circle. He partnered the six-year-old on five previous occasions; including his Group III Queen Elizabeth Stakes win over Cefalu in November 2007. Jay Ford guided Zavite to victory in the same year's Listed McKell Cup. “It’s lovely to see the old horse back in the form he was in a couple of seasons back,” Rawiller said. “The way he raced today, he gave me confidence the whole way.” |
