Mrs Kipling Is Exceedingly Good Classy two-year-old Mrs Kipling's victory in the Motors-Saab Elwick Stakes at Tattersall's Park in Hobart on Saturday has confirmed that the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival is now firmly etched on trainer Lee Freedman's national racing calendar. “We've got a good group of two year olds this year so we sat down and worked out where we could best place this filly to get black type,” Freedman racing manager Sam Pritchard-Gordon said. “We were always going to bring one or two horses down here for this carnival because we enjoy coming to Tasmania and the prize money is good,” he said. Mrs. Kipling cruised to an effortless 1-3/4 length win over Catwen Boy with Rock Jester only a half-head astern.. "We had to run a little bit deep and wide because of the way the track played out,” Pritchard-Gordon said. “It would have been nice to have a had little bit of cover down the back stretch, but in the end the filly had a touch of class and that got her through,” he said. Mrs Kipling began well from her wide barrier and stayed midfield until jockey Matthew Allen urged his filly forward 600 metres from home. Once balanced at the top of the straight Mrs. Kipling powered home and was virtually unchallenged at the business end of the race. Allen described Mrs Kipling as a strong and quick filly with a handy future. “This filly is speedy, she's on pace and she has a good kick. She's a very racy type of filly but she never weakened in the run,” Allen said. A half sister, by Exceed And Excel, to our own Sacha Royale, this family continues to go from strength to strength and the yearling half sister is catalogued to sell at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. The filly, by Anabaa, will be presented by Willow Park Stud on behalf of her breeder Catherine Remond. |
