Stakes Winning Double

Australia Day at Caulfield saw two Rockmount graduates salute in stakes races with Time Thief and Typhoon Tracy both scoring impressively.

For winning trainer Lee Freedman, the win of Time Thief was indication of the development made by the colt since his very promising spring campaign.

“It was a really good effort today,” Freedman said

“To do what he did when he was only 80% or 85% fit was terrific and he’ll get a great benefit out of the run.”

“As for future races, we’ve got all of our cards still on the table until we wait and see how he pulls up but we think he might be better off having another run at 1200 metres before we step him up in distance.”

“But he’s made a big jump this time in and he’s definitely the real thing”

Punters at Caulfield may well have seen the first stakes win of a special filly when Typhoon Tracy cruised to victory in the listed Kevin Hayes Stakes over 1200 metres.

Jockey Glen Boss only had to steer the daughter of Red Ransom around the track as Typhoon Tracy led from start to finish to score a soft 2 ¾ length win in smart time against a handy field.

“This filly has come so far from her maiden win, she can be very good,” Moody’s assistant trainer Tony Haydon said.

Typhoon Tracy is a sister to the promising sprinter Red Element, also a Rockmount graduate, who will be floated to Victoria midweek to join David Hayes’ Flemington operation.

Red Element will target the big handicap sprints and may well meet his full sister in the Newmarket Handicap where both would have to be considered lightweight chances.
