Red Arrow wins at Santa Anita

Rockmount pretrained its first American winner when Australian bred Red Ransom entire Red Arrow opened his winning account in North America when taking out an allowance event over six and a half furlongs on turf on the weekend.

After leaving Rockmount in October Red Arrow ran third when making his American debut at Hollywood on November 30, he improved with that run under his belt and charged home from back in the field to score a narrow but impressive win.

Now trained by John Sadler for new owners Gary and Cecil Barber, five year-old Red Arrow has the overall record of two wins and five placings from 12 starts and was last seen in Australia back in August last year when finishing third in the Group Three MRC Bletchingly Stakes.

Previously trained by Anthony Cummings, Red Arrow always showed good ability and might well find his best form now trained in America and racing on the Lasix treatment used for bleeders which is barred in this country.

A $225,000 purchase from the Vinery draft at the 2005 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Red Arrow is a half-brother to stakes-winner Able Choice being from former star racemare Lady Jakeo, a dual Group One winning daughter of Last Tycoon.
