First Winner for VRC Oaks Winner Group One VRC Oaks winner Bulla Borghese was represented by her first winner when three year-old filly Melpomene scored at Bendigo on Wednesday. The Brian Mayfield-Smith trained and Rockmount pretrained filly was resuming from a spell of 21 weeks and was sent out favourite on the strength of two recent trials wins. Placed second at her only two previous runs back in May, Melpomene cast off maiden status with a fast finishing run from back in the field, snatching her first victory by a neck in the 1300 metre event. A daughter of Elusive Quality (pictured), Melpomene is the first foal of Group One VRC Oaks winner Bulla Borghese, whose second foal, a filly by Encosta de Lago made $500,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale this year to the bid of Vin Cox Bloodstock. |
