Bluebloods Worth a Red Ransom A son and a daughter of former Vinery shuttle stallion Red Ransom (USA) and both pretrained at Rockmount, sent their value soaring on Saturday when earning their first stakes successes. A daughter of Golden Slipper winner Bint Marscay, Mannington was sent to the United States in December 2005. She has a yearling filly and a filly foal by Lane’s End Farm’s international stud success Kingmambo (Mr Prospector). The decision of breeder John Hutchins to take his Red Ransom (USA) colt home after failing to make his $300,000 reserve at the 2006 Australian Easter Yearling sale, is looking financially sound after Red Element earned his first stakes success in Saturday’s $100,000 AR Creswick Stakes (1200m) at Flemington. Confidently ridden by Brad Rawiller, the David Hayes-trained colt came away with a 1 ½-length victory over favoured Beaming with Gentry a long neck away third. "He's won on three different tracks now, said Hayes. He goes well at the Valley but it's nice to know that he goes well up the straight. “The owner has got three full sisters (to Red Element) so it’s a nice race to win. “He’s a progressive sprinter I believe is Group class. “I will put him away now and set him for the spring.” It was the fourth consecutive success for the striking handsome 3yo colt who becomes the first stakes-winner for his dam Tracy's Element (Last Tycoon), a four time Group 1 winner in South Africa. Red Element is a brother to the luckless mare Kylikwong who was placed in the VRC Oaks (G1), SAJC Australasian Oaks (G1) VRC Sires' Produce Stakes (G1) VRC A.V. Kewney Stakes (G2), VRC Edward Manifold Stakes (G2) and S.A. Oaks (G2). Tracy's Element is herself a sister to the very useful NZ based stallion Towkay and a half-sister to Baerami Stud’s 1996 Stradbroke Handicap winner Danasinga and the ill fated Cullen as well as the South African Group 2 winner Topasannah. Both Tracy’s Element and Mannington formed part of the exceptional broodmare band put together Vinery owner Dr Tom Simon before he sold his Australian interests to concentrate on America. Red Ransom (pictured) shuttled to Vinery for eight seasons beginning in 1999. He was due to stand his final season in Australia last year before E.I. intervened. He is now a permanent resident of Sheikh Mohammed’s Dallham Hall Stud, England. Without covering huge books of mares, he has 18 southern hemisphere bred stakes-winners including current top 2-year olds All American and Portillo. |
