Romneya Romps In

Blue-blooded Red Ransom (USA) filly Romneya graduated to metropolitan company with a stylish two and a half length win at Sandown on Wednesday over 1200 metres.

Trained by Lee Freedman and pretrained at Rockmount, Romneya won easily on debut in a maiden at Ballarat on May 3 and the class rise to an open event for juvenile fillies proved no hurdle as she sat off the pace and accelerated for an easy win.

Bred and retained by Darley, Rockmount pretrainer Romneya is a half-sister to Group One VRC Victoria Derby winner Benicio (pictured left) being from the Group Three winning Danehill (USA) mare Mannington, who was purchased by Darley for $2,050,000 at the 2005 Inglis Broodmare Sale when offered as part of the Vinery Dispersal.

Romneya and the Paul Fleming owned three year-old filly Rhema (by Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) are the only daughters of Mannington in Australia as Darley chose to export the daughter of Golden Slipper winner Bint Marscay to North America where she has produced two fillies for them by Kingmambo.
