Hong Kong Success Our close association at Rockmount with bloodstock agent Marie Yoshida and owner Mr Michael Kao was evident in Hong Kong on the 9th of March when Mascot Fortune (pictured left) easily won a class 3 race over 7 furlongs. The son of Fusaichi Pegasus out of Vegahoney certainly looks like he will go on to brighter things. Another one of Marie’s purchases has also caught the eye in Hong Kong if the following article from the South China Morning Post is anything to go by... “..In the opening heat, while speed demons Classa For Ever and Shining Dragon slugged it out up front, it was third-placed Many Gains that most caught the eye. When they straightened for the home run, Many Gains (Douglas Whyte) was conceding five or six lengths to Classa For Ever. But the well- bred three-year-old stretched out handsomely in the final 200 metres and was less than a length from the winner at the post. Many Gains is a quality three-year-old by the handsome 2000 Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus, from the Danehill daughter She’s A Pretender, a sister to the 1995 Victoria Derby hero and Melbourne Cup runner-up Nothin’ Leica Dane. This outstanding classic family added another Group 1 winner to its ranks last Saturday when Light Fantastic, a son of Danehill Dancer, landed the Group 1 Cadbury Australia Guineas (1600m) at Flemington. Many Gains has only raced twice, for a second to Lucia at 1000 metres and a win over the Sha Tin 1200 metres on February 9th. The three-year-old is prepared by Manfred Man Ka-leung and is basically untapped, leading to the easy conclusion that he’s set for a rapid rise through the grades.” We wish Mr Kao continued success with all his horses. |
