King Of The County

Orange County did himself and Rockmount proud when taking out a stakes race on March 8th at headquarters. The Melbourne Food and Wine Plate, a listed event, was run over the 7 furlong trip on a dead track and that extra bit of give in the going allowed Orange County to come with a late run to get the cash. The 5 year old gelded son of Volksraad has been plagued with feet problems for most of his career and has therefore spent a lot of time in Rockmount’s water walker. Our resident farrier John Pittard has done some great work on the grey’s feet and the horse is now starting to reap the rewards.

Backed up a week later by his trainer Brian Mayfield-Smith Orange County ran a brave Third in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes on March 15th. Assuming Orange County stays sound there should be a couple more good runs in him this preparation. Congratulations to his owner John MacLean.
