A Rockmount Treble Geelong on January 17th provided three winners from the Rockmount pretraining ranks and it was very nearly 4 from 4! Kohl kicked off proceedings in the first race, a maiden over 2433 metres, for Mick Kent and leading Victorian jockey Brad Rawiller. The four year old entire by Second Empire has shown good form throughout his career and he deservedly got rid of his maiden tag. There will have been plenty of victory photographs as Kohl is part owned by the Winning Post’s chief photographer Bruno Canatelli and we are sure there will be more victories in store for this stallion. The second race on the card provided yet another win for the Peter Moody camp and a good ride from in form jockey Kate Dyson. Gee Archer, named for the great footballer from North Melbourne, carried the Blue and White colours with pride and ran out a good winner over the 6 furlong trip at only his second race start. Bred and raced by Moody’s racing secretary Marni Kelly and his assistant trainer Tony Haydon, Gee Archer is a strong gelding by Danehill stallion Danetrice out of a Dieu D’or mare in Fais D’or. No doubt Tony Haydon will give Peter plenty of advise in where to place him next. Race 3 on the card , a fillies maiden over about 6 furlongs, saw Wrangle Queen just failing to get the cash by a short head. Blocked badly in the straight, the King Of Prussia filly was a good thing beaten and we won’t be getting 60/1 about her next time! Trained by Niall Phillips, Wrangle Queen was bred by the Moore family in Longwood out of their mare Summer Snow whom they also raced. Wrangle Queen has a 2 year old full sister and a half brother by Dolphin Street who will both hopefully produce the goods in years to come. The fourth race saw the Tony Noonan stable notch up a winner in the shape of Kinka Rhode. Stepping up to 1726 metre, the mare was well rated by Sam Hyland to carry 57 kgs to victory. Kinka Rhode will be a valuable acquisition in the broodmare barn if she can continue on winning as she is by Encosta de Lago out of a Centaine mare. |
