Bel Mer Goes Close

Vinery Stud’s Bel Mer found one too good for her during the Melbourne Spring Carnival but still showed off her huge potential. Racing in the time honoured Coolmore Stud-Ascot Vale stakes Bel Mer was given a super ride from Craig Newitt down the straight but was beaten to the line by the outstanding 3 year old in Weekend Hussler in a time of 1.08.05. Bel Mer’s value has increased significantly as she has now added a group 1 placing to her already significant race record which stands at 5 starts for a win, 3 seconds and a third and over $200,000 in prize money. Bel Mer is back in light work here at Rockmount after having a brief let up and is in terrific order.

Bel Mer’s conqueror also has the Rockmount connection as the majority owner of the Hussonet gelding is Rockmount director Jill Kewish. Weekend Hussler is certainly one out of the box and his race record makes for impressive reading. Winning from 1200 to 1600 metres, he has amassed over $970,000 in winning 5 of his 7 starts. He returns to the stables next week to prepare for an Autumn campaign.
