A Box Of Allsorts
The month of November saw a multitude of winners and placegetters emerging from Rockmount and saluting at tracks all over the state of Victoria. Ararat on the 2nd of November may seem like a far cry from carnival time at Flemington but the connections of Mellocello weren’t too fazed. The 5 year old Lacryma Cristi mare was impressive in winning first up over the 6 furlong trip after pretraining here at the farm. Ridden by Dean Yendall and trained by Bob Keirl, Mellocello obviously has a liking for Ararat as she dropped back to 1,100 metres at the track on November 18th and saluted again! Owners in the mare include Bronwyn Hawking and Wayne Ross of Cloverlea Farm and Anne Murphy, the maitre d’ at the excellent Pickled Olive restaurant in Euroa.
Donald on November 11th provided Rockmount with a maiden double, both from the Moody camp and both ridden by Luke Nolen. Niyazov won well over 5 furlongs showing good speed obviously inherited from his father Choisir, whilst Super Gains won in very good time over 6 furlongs by 1 ½ lengths with 7 lengths back to the 3rd placegetter. Both horses, especially Super Gains, are capable of better things in the future.
November 16th saw another double for the Rockmount team. At Moe the 3 year old gelding Everitt broke his maiden tag over 1,200 metres by holding off a short priced favourite of Mick Price’s right on the line. Trained by Rick Harrison, Everitt was confidently ridden by Mark Flaherty. Back in the city, Hanover Fist continued her good form by taking out a mile handicap at Moonee Valley under a typically strong ride from Craig Newitt. The 4 year old Flying Spur mare has been an honest earner for the Mick Price Stable.
Michael Carlile has been a great supporter of the farm for many years and it was a pleasure to see one of his fillies saluting at Pakenham on November 27th. Flamenco Miss is a Carlile home bred daughter of Encosta De Lago out of the Geiger Counter mare Gwalia. The 1,000 maiden saw her get out in time to stick her nose out on the line and give the P.Moody/L.Nolen combination yet another winner.
